Two Indonesians arrested at BIA with Rs. 67 Mn Kush consignment

Police Narcotics Division officers at the Katunyake Airport arrested two Indonesian nationals early today (20) while attempting to smuggle a stock of Kush drugs out of the airport.

It is reported that the suspects, a 22‑year‑old man and a 30‑year‑old woman, had purchased the drugs in Bangkok, Thailand, transported them to Bangalore, India, and from there brought them into Sri Lanka. 

They were preparing to take the consignment out of the country when officials intercepted them.

Authorities seized the narcotics, valued at approximately Rs. 67.1 million, concealed in five packets inside two pieces of luggage. The haul weighed 5.401 kilos.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today, where they will be remanded pending further investigation. (Newswire)
