Asanga Seneviratne elected NOC President with majority vote

Asanga Seneviratne has been elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka following a majority vote held today.

Seneviratne, who currently serves as President of the Sri Lanka Baseball Softball Association, secured 16 votes to win the contest.

Jaswar Umar received 11 votes, while Shirantha Peiris polled 2 votes.

With the result, Seneviratne will take over the leadership of the country’s top Olympic governing body at a key time for Sri Lankan sport, with preparations underway for upcoming regional and international competitions. (Newswire)
