
A 33-year-old Sri Lankan man has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport after customs officers seized a large quantity of narcotics concealed in his luggage.
The suspect, a resident of Colombo, had arrived from Bangkok on flight FD 140 and attempted to exit through the airport’s green channel.
Officers from the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit stopped and searched him on suspicion.
During the inspection, officials found 2,505 grams of “kush” hidden inside his suitcase. The narcotics had been carefully concealed inside packets of dried fruit, with the original contents removed. The estimated street value of the haul is Rs. 25.05 million.
The suspect, identified as a photographer, is to be handed over along with the seized items to the airport’s Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations. (Newswire)
