According to The Sunday Times, documents linked to the future repayment of a French loan have reportedly gone missing from the Ministry of Finance computer systems, in a development investigators believe may be connected to the same hackers behind the recent USD 2.5 million Treasury fund breach.
The report said initial investigations found the missing files relate to a scheduled French loan repayment, raising concerns they may have been accessed or removed as part of preparations for another fraud attempt.
The newspaper further reported that a special cyberforensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department is leading the probe.
As part of the investigation, officers have reportedly taken possession of laptops, mobile phones and SIM cards used by staff of the External Resources Department, which also handled the earlier USD 2.5 million debt repayment transaction to Australia. (Newswire)
