The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-central, North-western provinces and Galle, Matara, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts today (27).
Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some places after 2.00 pm.
Red alerts have been issued to 16 districts, and amber alerts have been issued to 09 districts during this period.
The department warned that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, and urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
