Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma has informed the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) that he is unable to appear before the committee on Thursday (30).
COPF Chairman Harsha de Silva said the committee received a letter from the Treasury Secretary on Wednesday (29) notifying them of his inability to attend the scheduled session.
De Silva said that the Treasury secretary in his letter has requested for an alternate date after May 5th, as the President will make a statement in Parliament on this matter before that.
The secretary had been summoned along with senior Finance Ministry officials to provide explanations over a cyber theft involving US$2.5 million.
The committee had earlier decided on Tuesday (28) to call the officials before COPF and had instructed them to appear on Thursday (30) to respond to queries related to the incident. (Newswire)
