
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Galle and Matara districts after 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Morning showers are also likely in coastal areas of the Southern Province and in the Kalutara and Colombo districts.
Misty conditions are expected at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in the Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.
In the surrounding sea areas, showers or thundershowers are forecast off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be southwesterly at speeds of 25 to 35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times in sea areas extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coasts from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil will be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island are expected to remain moderate.
The department warned that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas could occur during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
