An inmate was injured after prison officers opened fire on two detainees attempting to escape from the Galle Prison this evening.
According to reports, the two inmates had tried to flee the facility when officers intervened and opened fire to prevent the escape. One inmate sustained injuries in the shooting, while the other was apprehended by prison officials.
The injured inmate suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and was admitted to the Galle National Hospital under police protection for further treatment. (Newswire)
