
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm today (04).
According to the Department of Meteorology, fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers are likely in the coastal areas of Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts in the morning.
Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Northern and Northcentral provinces and in Hambantota district.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate.
