New government‑run Child Daycare Centre opens in Battaramulla

A new government‑run Child Daycare Centre has been opened in Battaramulla, using equipment and supplies donated by the All‑China Women’s Federation to the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus.

The centre, located within the premises of the “Govijana Mandiraya” of the Ministry of Agriculture, was inaugurated yesterday (06).

It includes a preschool named “Little Roots” and operates as a joint project of the Sri Lanka Parliament, the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the government, the daycare centre will provide crucial support to busy government employees, ensuring the early childhood development and well‑being of their children.

Initially, it will serve staff of Parliament and the Ministry of Agriculture, with plans to expand in the future.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savitri Paulraj and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Lands K.D. Lalkantha.

Officials from the Ministries of Women and Child Affairs, Agriculture, and Mass Media, members of the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, the Deputy Chairperson of Committees of Parliament, Parliament officials, representatives of the Chinese Embassy, parents, and children participated in the event.
