The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings for three areas in the Badulla and Monaragala districts due to prevailing adverse weather conditions.
The warnings have been issued for the Passara Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Badulla District, as well as the Badalkumbura and Wellawaya Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Monaragala District.
The NBRO stated that all mountainous areas, manmade cut slopes and roads within the relevant Divisional Secretariat divisions are at risk.
Residents have been urged to remain alert for pre-landslide signs including ground cracks, land subsidence, tilting trees and utility poles, cracks in walls and floors, and the sudden appearance or disappearance of springs and muddy water.
People living in landslide-prone areas have been advised to move to safer locations immediately if such warning signs are observed or if heavy rainfall continues.
The NBRO and the Disaster Management Center have also urged the public to follow official instructions issued during the warning period. (NewsWire)
