The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide early warnings for several areas across the country as heavy rainfall continues to affect parts of the island.

A Level 2 warning was issued for the Passara Divisional Secretariat Division in Badulla District, with the alert set to remain in effect from 4 p.m. on Monday (11) until 4 p.m. on Tuesday (12).

According to NBRO a number of other areas in six districts have also been placed under Level 1 “be alert” warnings due to the risk of landslides.

The affected areas include Bandarawewa in Badulla District, Walallawita in Kalutara District and Rideegama in Kurunegala District.

In Matale District, warnings were issued for the Rattota, Ambanganga Korale and Naula Divisional Secretariat divisions, while Wellawaya and Badalkumbura in Monaragala District were also identified as vulnerable areas.

Ratnapura and Kalawana Divisional Secretariat divisions in Ratnapura District have likewise been placed under alert.

Authorities advised residents living in high-risk locations to pay close attention to warning signs associated with landslides, including cracks in the ground, leaning trees or utility poles and sudden water seepage. People in such areas were urged to move to safer locations if any of these signs are observed. (Newswire)
