The Cabinet has approved the next phase of the Central Expressway, covering the Rambukkana–Galagedara stretch, with full government funding amounting to Rs. 112 billion, Minister of Transport and Highways Bimal Rathnayake said.
According to Minister Rathnayake, the project will be financed entirely by the Government of Sri Lanka without resorting to new loans, marking a significant milestone in the country’s economic recovery.
“The ultimate proof of our economic recovery. What was once a distant dream is now a funded reality thanks to the Ministry of Finance’s strategic leadership over the last 18 months,” the minister said in a post on ‘X’.
The Rambukkana–Galagedara section forms a critical part of the Central Expressway project, which aims to strengthen connectivity between Colombo and Kandy. (Newswire)
