
The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours, as of 08.30 am today (15), has been reported in the Gampaha area in the Gampaha District, recording 142.0 mm.
According to the Met Department, 108.0 mm of rain has been recorded in the Kirindiwela area in Gampaha District during this period.
Above 100 mm of rain has also been reported in the Maliboda area in Kegalle District (104.0 mm) and the Penrith Estate in Avissawella in the Colombo District (100.5 mm).
The Met Department has forecast heavy rains for today as well, with thundershowers expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in the Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts.
Very heavy showers of about 150mm are likely in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces. Heavy showers above 100mm are likely in some places in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm. (Newswire)
