Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level advisory for heavy rain, warning of showers and thundershowers exceeding 100mm in several parts of the country.
The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 2.00 a.m. today (22), is valid until 2.00 a.m. on 23 May.
The warning applies to the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, along with the Galle District.
According to the advisory, heavy rainfall above 100mm is likely at some locations within the affected areas.
The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers. (Newswire)
