The Department of Irrigation has warned of a possible minor flood situation in low-lying areas of the Kalu River basin within the next 24 hours.
The department said considerable rainfall has been recorded in the catchment areas of the Kalu River basin.
Based on the prevailing rainfall conditions and river water levels recorded at hydrological stations along the Kalu River, minor flooding may occur in low-lying areas of the Kalu Ganga valley, including the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Kalutara, Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palindanuwara.
Residents in the affected areas and motorists travelling through them have been advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
The department also requested disaster management authorities to take the necessary precautionary measures in response to the situation. (Newswire)
