
The Government of India has officially handed over 134 single-cab vehicles to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for use by the Sri Lanka Police under the Indo‑Sri Lanka Friendship Programme.
The ceremonial handover took place this morning (25) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The vehicles, valued at Rs. 300 million, are earmarked for deployment to Police stations in the Northern Province.
Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, speaking at the event, said India remains committed to extending similar assistance to Sri Lanka in the future.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya presented a commemorative gift to the High Commissioner in appreciation of the donation.
The event was attended by Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne, DIMO Institution General Manager Rajeev Pandithage, officials from the Indian High Commission, and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Police. (Newswire)
