More than 18,500 people from eight districts have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the country, according to the latest situation report issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The report, issued at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (26), stated that 4,854 families comprising 18,526 individuals have been affected between May 22 and May 26.
The DMC said one death and one injury had been reported during the period, while three houses were completely destroyed and 926 houses suffered partial damage.
The Ratnapura District recorded the highest number of affected people, with 5,268 individuals from 1,389 families impacted by the weather conditions.
Colombo District reported 6,773 affected persons from 1,571 families, while 4,265 individuals from 1,219 families were affected in the Puttalam District.
According to the report, nine safe locations have been established islandwide, currently sheltering 69 families comprising 245 individuals.
The affected districts are Ratnapura, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Puttalam, Colombo, Trincomalee and Vavuniya. (Newswire)
