The suspect wanted in connection with the double murder of an elderly couple in Dikoya, Hatton, is yet to be arrested, contrary to earlier media reports of him being rearrested, the Police said.
According to the Police Media Division, the suspect was arrested and had been taken to the Kandy National Hospital yesterday (27) due to an illness.
However, he had escaped while under the supervision of prison officials and remains at large.
The Police further refuted media reports claiming he was rearrested, clarifying that the suspect had not yet been arrested after his escape.
The suspect is accused of murdering a husband and wife in the Hatton-Dickoya town area before fleeing with gold jewellery.
The couple, who were residing inside a shop in the town, were found murdered on Friday (22). (Newswire)
