A 14-year-old boy has been arrested by Eravur Police in connection with the death of his 11-year-old sister.
The victim, identified as 11-year-old Sathyananthan Sadeesha, was found inside a water tank in the bathroom of her home on May 28.
Police investigations have revealed that an argument had reportedly broken out between the siblings over a mobile phone before the incident.
According to police, the children’s mother is employed overseas, while their father had been away for work on the day of the incident.
Investigators suspect the argument escalated, leading to the girl’s death. The boy is believed to have then gone to a neighbouring house.
The father, upon returning home, searched for his children and found his daughter unconscious inside the water tank. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
During questioning, the 14-year-old allegedly admitted involvement in the incident, police said.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is due to be produced before court.
