The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the Government’s successful completion of the fifth and sixth reviews under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme, enabling Sri Lanka to access approximately USD 695 million in financing support.

The Chamber said the approval comes at a crucial time amid global uncertainty and external pressures linked to the Middle East conflict, and would help reinforce investor confidence and support the country’s economic recovery.

It stressed the need to continue structural reforms aimed at improving the investment climate, competitiveness, infrastructure and institutions to drive private sector-led growth.

The Chamber also reiterated its call to strengthen the fuel QR system to improve efficiency and targeted support, while maintaining cost-reflective pricing, and urged clear and consistent communication on economic policy to support market confidence and macroeconomic stability.

It further emphasised the importance of accelerating reforms in trade, investment, tourism, logistics and digitalisation to strengthen Sri Lanka’s economic resilience. (NewsWire)
