Easter attacks probe : Court orders CID to report on Suresh Sallay’s mental health

June 3, 2026 at 4:08 PM

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara today issued notice on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), directing it to present information on the health condition of former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Sallay, who is being held under detention orders in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.

It is reported that the order was made after President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, appearing for Sallay, filed a motion challenging the continuation of proceedings against his client. Sallay has been named as the third suspect in the case.

The Counsel informed the court that reports submitted by the Judicial Medical Officer indicated Sallay was suffering from depression, anxiety, and post‑traumatic stress disorder, creating a risk of self‑harm.

He requested that Sallay be placed in an environment suitable for psychiatric treatment.

The Magistrate noted that the complainant party must also be present before any order could be issued.

Accordingly, the case was fixed for tomorrow (04), with notice issued to the CID officer‑in‑charge to appear. (Newswire)
