More than eight people have been killed after a fire broke out at an elders’ home in Batagoda, Aguruwathota, police said.
According to police, the bodies of more than 8 victims have been recovered from the facility following the blaze.
Eight others who sustained injuries were admitted to hospital for treatment, while 51 residents were rescued from the home by emergency responders.
Police said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. Further details regarding the victims and the circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be released.
