Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board for a four-year term following the board elections held in Dhaka on Sunday.
Tamim, who had been serving as head of the BCB’s ad-hoc committee since April, was elected unopposed after securing a position on the newly formed board of directors. He was subsequently endorsed as president during the board’s first meeting following the election.
The election completed the formation of a 25-member board that will oversee Bangladesh cricket for the next four years. Fahim Sinha was elected vice-president after receiving the highest number of votes among the candidates for the position.
Speaking after his election, Tamim pledged to restore confidence in Bangladesh cricket and promote greater transparency within the governing body. He also expressed hope that the board could move beyond recent controversies and focus on the future development of the sport.
The 37-year-old is one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated cricketers, having retired from international cricket after becoming the country’s highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals. (Newswire)
