The Sri Lanka Navy rescued three fishermen and their stranded fishing trawler in northern waters after adverse weather conditions left the vessel disabled and unable to communicate with the mainland.

The rescue operation was launched following an urgent alert from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo regarding a fishing trawler in distress.

Responding swiftly, the Navy deployed vessels to conduct a search and rescue mission over two days, from June 6 to June 7.

Naval personnel located the stranded trawler and its three crew members in waters off Analaitivu Island and safely rescued the fishermen without injuries.

The Navy also provided towing assistance to bring the disabled fishing vessel back to the mainland.

The Sri Lanka Navy remains on standby, in coordination with MRCC Colombo, to respond rapidly to emergencies involving fishermen and other maritime communities operating within Sri Lanka’s Search and Rescue Region (SRR). (Newswire)
