A Sri Lankan national was arrested in Thailand last week after allegedly attempting to board a flight using a counterfeit Canadian passport, according to Thai immigration authorities.
The arrest took place at Suvarnabhumi International Airport near Bangkok when immigration officers reportedly detected irregularities in a Canadian travel document presented by the passenger while attempting to board a flight to London.
Authorities said further investigations revealed that the individual was a Sri Lankan national and was allegedly involved in a plan to use multiple travel routes to avoid detection.
Thai officials later arrested a second suspect at Don Mueang International Airport as part of the investigation. Authorities also claimed to have recovered information from a mobile phone containing instructions on how to respond to border security officials.
The suspects are being investigated under Thailand’s immigration and document fraud laws. (Newswire)
