
Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake inspected the recently renovated Pettah Central Bus Stand and participated in a discussion on its operations.
Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) also joined the visit.
The Pettah Central Bus Stand, one of Sri Lanka’s busiest public transport hubs, was recently reopened following extensive renovation and modernization work carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Implemented at a cost of several million rupees, the project was undertaken under the Government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” programme with the aim of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of public transport infrastructure.
During the inspection, the Minister and the Defence Secretary observed the bus stand premises and reviewed the facilities, services and operational arrangements currently in place.
At the subsequent discussion, attention was focused on maintenance activities, operational management, ongoing development work, security measures and various challenges encountered in the terminal’s day-to-day operations.
The discussions also explored practical measures to further improve passenger convenience, traffic flow, cleanliness and overall operational efficiency at the bus terminal.
Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, officials of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), senior officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Police, as well as representatives of other relevant institutions, were also present. (Newswire)
