The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has carried out a raid on a supermarket in the Kollupitiya area over the sale of imported packaged food products allegedly lacking mandatory labelling information.

During the operation, officials found a stock of items on sale without key details required under consumer protection regulations, including importer information, maximum retail price, batch numbers, manufacturing and expiry dates, and ingredient lists.

Authorities said the products were labelled only in foreign languages, with no essential information provided in a format accessible to consumers.

The CAA has launched an investigation into the establishment, with legal action to be taken upon completion of inquiries. The authority also warned that such practices could mislead consumers and pose risks to health and safety. (NewsWire)
