The Department of Meteorology has issued a strong wind and rough sea warning for sea areas extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Winds in these areas are expected to reach 50–60 kmph, with sea conditions becoming rough at times. Wave heights may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities have been advised to remain vigilant and monitor future updates from the Department of Meteorology.
An earlier warning restricting navigation in sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar has now been withdrawn.
The warning was issued at 10.30 a.m. on 14 June 2026 and is valid until 10.30 a.m. on 15 June 2026. (NewsWire)
