Rs. 47 Million New Kopay Police Station Declared Open

Kopay Police Station in Jaffna was officially reopened in a newly constructed building on June 14 under the patronage of Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya.

According to the Police Media Division, the Kopay Police Station, which was originally established on January 6, 1966, has been upgraded with a fully equipped new facility built at a cost of approximately Rs. 47 million.

The police division covers 27 Grama Niladhari divisions across an area of 51 square kilometres and serves a population of around 64,500 people. The University of Jaffna and the Jaffna College of Education are also located within the police area.
