Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa has responded humorously to a remark made by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, who said the opposition politician should attend court on days when he has hearings and campaign on other days.
Responding to a journalist’s question about Rajapaksa’s ongoing political activities around the country, Minister Jayatissa said: “It’s fine. On days when there are court cases, he should attend court. On the other days, he can go around like that.”
Commenting on the minister’s statement, Rajapaksa thanked Jayatissa for reminding him of his court date and said he would remember the gesture.
“I have written about my court date in my book. I will remember that Hon. Minister Nalinda Jayatissa reminded me of the court date,” Rajapaksa said.
He added that his next court appearance is scheduled for the 7th of next month and jokingly requested another reminder from the minister closer to the date.
“I request him, the court date is on the 7th of next month. It would be good if he would remind me before that. These days I am asked to attend many meetings and so on, so if I forget, I will have a lot of work,” he said.
Rajapaksa also invited Minister Jayatissa and other Members of Parliament to attend the court proceedings.
“I also invite him, and all 159 people, to come to court on that day and pay attention to the examination of evidence, rather than reading things here and there. Then they themselves can know how their police behaved,” he said. (Newswire)
