
The excavation of the Chemmani Siddhupatthi mass grave in Jaffna has entered its 27th day of the third phase, with 14 additional skeletons unearthed today under the supervision of Jaffna Magistrate Selvanayagam Leninkumar.
Investigators have so far identified 380 human remains from the site, of which 362 have been exhumed. Nearly 120 artefacts, including baby milk bottles, toys, children’s shoes, school bags and coins, have also been recovered alongside the remains.
The excavation, which commenced on 15 May 2025 following a court order, is being led by Raj Somadeva and Sellaiah Piranavan. Officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Office on Missing Persons are scheduled to visit the site tomorrow. (Newswire)
