Sri Lanka A cricketer Vishen Halambage and India A batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi have reportedly been sanctioned following their heated altercation during the Tri-Nation Series match in Dambulla on Monday.
Newswire learns that the match referee has recommended a fine amounting to 50 percent of the players’ match fees for both Halambage and Suryavanshi after reviewing the incident.
Sources familiar with the matter said the referee’s report has been submitted to the relevant cricket authorities in Sri Lanka and India for consideration.
As the tournament is not conducted under the International Cricket Council (ICC), the final decision on the sanctions rests with the respective board representatives and tournament officials, according to sources.
The incident occurred at the conclusion of Sri Lanka A’s dramatic Super Over victory over India A, with video footage showing a heated altercation between Halambage and the 15-year-old Indian batter.
The incident attracted significant attention on social media, with clips of the confrontation widely shared by cricket fans in both countries.
There has been no official announcement from tournament organisers, Sri Lanka Cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), or match officials regarding the reported sanctions. (Newswire)
