
Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara says excavation work at the Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna is progressing successfully and that the necessary funds have been allocated to complete the process.
The Minister made the remarks during a visit today to inspect ongoing excavations at the Ariyalai Siththupathy Chemmani mass grave site.
He stressed that the excavations should be completed as quickly as possible to ensure justice is served.
The excavation work is being carried out under the leadership of Senior Professor Raj Somadeva, with the participation of archaeology students, forensic experts, medical professionals and other specialists.
Following the inspection, the Minister addressed the media and also responded to questions regarding the excavation process and investigations into missing persons.
Among those present at the site were representatives of the Office on Missing Persons (OMP), including its Chairman Mahesh Katulanda, former Colombo Judicial Medical Officer Dr. Ajith Tennakoon, Jaffna District MPs K. Ilankumaran and Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy, legal representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Justice and National Integration. -(NewsWire)
