Police have released further information regarding the discovery of a woman’s body inside a car parked near Teldeniya Hospital, identifying the deceased as a 34‑year‑old physiotherapist of the Ampara General Hospital.

Investigations revealed that her lover, a software engineer of Gannoruwa, Kandy, had placed the body in the vehicle and fled the area.

Police said the suspect, who had been in a relationship with the victim for about eight months, is now wanted and public assistance has been sought to trace him.

According to media reports, the Police said the victim had borrowed approximately Rs. 15 million from a bank and several individuals, expecting to travel to Canada with her partner.

When the plan failed and creditors demanded repayment, she came under severe mental stress. She had been staying at a lodge in Nuwara Eliya since June 3, and had contacted her brother and a psychiatrist expressing distress.

CCTV footage showed the suspect arriving at the lodge on Tuesday (16) around 9.50 pm, staying for 40 minutes, and later carrying her away while she was conscious. He then placed her in a car and drove off. The vehicle was later found parked near Teldeniya Hospital, with the body covered by a black cloth in the front passenger seat.

Police say further inquiries revealed the car belonged to another girlfriend of the suspect, residing in Ampara.

Following a post‑mortem examination, an open verdict was delivered, with authorities yet to confirm whether the death was a murder or due to another cause.

The investigation is continuing under the Nuwara Eliya Police. (Newswire)
