Traffic restrictions announced on Colombo-Galle road

Sri Lanka Police have announced traffic restrictions on sections of the Galle-Colombo main road on Saturday (20) due to the annual Uragaha Gangarama Perahera in Ambalangoda.

The procession will take place from 2.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. and will travel along parts of the Galle Road and surrounding streets in Ambalangoda.

The perahera will commence at the Gangarama Purana Viharaya in Uragaha and proceed via the Uragaha Gangarama junction, Galle Road, the Hirewatta Buddha statue area, Main Street, and the Ambalangoda roundabout before returning to the temple.

The traffic movement along the route will be restricted while the procession is in progress and advised motorists to use alternative routes.

Vehicles travelling from Colombo towards Galle, excluding heavy vehicles, are advised to divert via Kapu Ela junction, Watugedara junction, Polwatta junction, Pollawa junction and Batapola before rejoining the Galle-Colombo main road at Kahawa.

Similarly, vehicles travelling from Galle towards Colombo, excluding heavy vehicles, are advised to enter via the Kahawa-Batapola junction and proceed through Mitiyagoda, Pollawa, Polwatta, Watugedara and Kappu Ela before rejoining the main road near Sangharaja Viharaya. (Newswire)
