
A total of 225,748 students who sat the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination have qualified for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage announced.
Addressing a media briefing on the release of the examination results, she said the number represents 73.16% of first-time school candidates.
The Commissioner General also revealed that 11,790 candidates obtained A grades in all nine subjects, accounting for 3.57% of those who sat the examination. Of them, 11,651 were school candidates and 139 were private candidates.
She noted improvements in performance in both Science and Mathematics compared to the previous year. The pass rate for Science increased to 70.1% from 69.07% in 2024, while the Mathematics pass rate rose to 72.03% from 71.06%.
The Commissioner General also stated that 7,419 school candidates sitting either their first or second attempt failed all subjects, representing 2.36% of candidates, a figure close to that recorded in the previous year’s examination.
The results were released online at midnight on June 19. The examination was held from February 17 to 26 at 3,547 centres across the island.
Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage further announced that online applications for the re-scrutiny of answer scripts will be accepted from June 25 to July 8, 2026.
She also announced that the 2026 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination will be held from December 8 to 17. (Newswire)
