The Japanese government has approved a significant increase in visa fees for foreign nationals, with new charges set to take effect from July 1, 2026.

Under the revised fee structure, the cost of a single-entry visa will rise from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while multiple-entry visa fees will increase from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.

According to foreign media reports, this marks the first revision of Japan’s visa fees in nearly five decades, with the previous rates having remained unchanged since 1978.

Japanese authorities said the increase is aimed at covering the growing administrative costs associated with visa processing and immigration services.

The new fees will apply to travelers who require visas to enter Japan. Visitors from countries that enjoy visa-free access to Japan will not be affected unless they need to obtain a visa for a specific purpose. (Newswire)
