The initiatives to introduce a uniform preschool education system across all nine provinces from 2027 are underway, Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj said.
Speaking at the launch of the Early Childhood Education Development Programme, the Minister said early childhood education should be integrated with the country’s broader education system and implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Paulraj noted that preschool education in Sri Lanka currently operates in an informal manner and has yet to be recognised as a formal state service.
She also pointed out that there is currently no standardised procedure for recruiting preschool teachers or a dedicated ministry responsible for monitoring the sector.
The Minister said the proposed reforms aim to establish a more structured and consistent preschool education system across the country. (Newswire)
