Sri Lanka invites Athletes of Sri Lankan Origin Worldwide to Represent Nation

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has extended an open invitation to athletes of Sri Lankan origin living overseas to represent Sri Lanka in international competitions.

The announcement was made by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage, who said the Ministry is ready to provide the necessary support and coordination for athletes willing to compete for their ancestral homeland.

The Minister made the announcement while confirming that Sri Lankan-American gymnast Tiana Sumanasekera has officially decided to represent Sri Lanka in upcoming international tournaments.

According to the Ministry, all necessary logistical and administrative arrangements for overseas-based athletes who wish to represent Sri Lanka will be facilitated through the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Minister Gamage said the initiative is aimed at attracting talented athletes of Sri Lankan heritage from around the world and strengthening the country’s presence in international sport.

The Ministry expressed hope that more athletes of Sri Lankan origin competing abroad would consider representing Sri Lanka on the international stage following Sumanasekera’s decision. (Newswire)
