Police have arrested the main suspect in the Teldeniya car death case, together with his legally wedded wife and their small child, during a joint operation in Jaffna.
According to the Police, the trio were traveling by bus from Wellawatte to Chavakachcheri yesterday (23) when officers of the Jaffna Division Crime Investigation Unit and the Walana Anti‑Vice Unit intercepted them early this morning (24).
At the time of arrest, the suspect was wearing a face covering, while his wife was disguised as a Muslim woman. During questioning, he claimed to have traveled from Vavuniya to Kurunegala to hand over his other two children to Police custody.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of ASP Rohan Olugala, Director of the Walana Central Anti‑Vice Strike Unit.
It is reported that according to Police sources the suspects had recently been in Negombo and Chilaw, attempting to flee abroad by sea. They are to be handed over to Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigation.
The suspect was wanted in connection with a woman’s body being discovered inside a car parked near the Teldeniya Hospital on June 17. The deceased was identified as a 34‑year‑old physiotherapist attached to the Ampara General Hospital. Police allege her lover, a software engineer from Gannoruwa, placed the body in the vehicle and fled.
The victim’s brother had also lodged a complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Police, claiming that she was staying at a lodge in Nuwara Eliya and had not eaten for several days.
CCTV footage later revealed her lover arriving at the lodge on June 16 around 9:50 pm, staying for 40 minutes, and then carrying her away unconscious at about 10:30 pm.
He subsequently placed her in a car and drove off, later tipping off the Police on the body. (Newswire)
