
A magistrate’s inquiry was conducted today into the body of a man found floating in Gin Ganga with his hands tied behind his back and attached to a concrete pole.
The body was recovered by police on Tuesday evening after information was received that a corpse was floating in the river. It was found lodged near the Wakwella Bridge in the Poddala Police Division.
The magistrate’s inquiry was conducted near the Wakwella Bridge by Baddegama Magistrate and District Judge Sanath Nanayakkara.
Following the inquiry, the magistrate ordered that the body be placed at the mortuary of the National Hospital in Galle for identification by relatives and further proceedings.
A team of forensic specialists, including Judicial Medical Officer Professor Ajith Ratnaweera of the National Hospital in Galle, attended the inquiry.
Investigations are being carried out by the Galle Divisional Crime Detective Bureau and Poddala Police. (Newswire)
