The Sri Lanka Examinations Department is set to establish a comprehensive computer network across all its branches, following Cabinet approval of a proposal presented by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.
According to the government, the department, which conducts more than 300 examinations annually including national‑level exams, currently relies on a computerized management information system but lacks a unified network linking its divisions.
As a result, many critical stages of the examination process have been carried out manually, with documents and data exchanged physically between branches, leading to inefficiencies, delays, and wastage of resources.
The government states the latest move aligns with the government’s ongoing digitalization drive across state institutions and is aimed at strengthening efficiency and transparency in examination management.
The new network will allow seamless data sharing, reduce reliance on manual processes, and improve overall service delivery. (Newswire)
