
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) will be repealed by this year.
Addressing the Parliament today (25), President Dissanayake assured that the PTA will be repealed in a few months.
“The PTA was brought as a temporary law in 1979, but has remained in force over the past 46 years. There have been strong calls from the public to repeal the PTA,” he said.
President Dissanayake said that Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has completed the formulation of the new law that will replace the PTA.
He further said that the final discussion on the matter has also been held, adding that the PTA will be repealed soon. (Newswire)
