The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has clarified that it did not make any representations on behalf of Attorney-at-Law Rakhitha Rajapaksa during court proceedings following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

In a statement issued on Friday, the BASL said certain media reports had incorrectly suggested that the Association made submissions during proceedings at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The BASL said its role in matters involving its members is limited to observing the relevant court proceedings and reporting them to the Association for any further action.

It further stated that its Executive Committee had not authorised any Attorney-at-Law to make submissions on behalf of the BASL during the proceedings, nor had it taken any decision to represent the arrested lawyer. (Newswire)
