Sri Lanka destroys over 62 kg of narcotics, including nearly 40 kg of ‘Kush’

Sri Lankan authorities on Friday destroyed more than 62 kilograms of narcotics, including nearly 40 kilograms of the synthetic drug ‘Kush’, following the conclusion of court proceedings in the respective cases.

Police said the destroyed stock comprised narcotics seized by the Police Narcotics Bureau as well as drugs that had been ordered destroyed by courts across the country and were being held by the Government Analyst’s Department.

The narcotics were incinerated at a specialised destruction facility in Lakthota, Wanathavilluwa, Puttalam.

The destroyed drugs included 39.710 kilograms of ‘Kush’, 14.097 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 2.030 kilograms of cocaine, 1.002 kilograms of heroin, 4.139 kilograms of cannabis and hashish, 1.200 kilograms of MDMA, and 26,262 narcotic pills.

The destruction was carried out under the supervision of the Negombo Additional Magistrate, officials of the Government Analyst’s Department, the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, and the Police Narcotics Bureau.  (Newswire)
