A man has been arrested by the Slave Island Police for allegedly posing as an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) officer and defrauding several individuals of money.
Police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint that the suspect had impersonated an IRD official to obtain money from members of the public.
The suspect, a 50-year-old resident of Galgamuwa, was subsequently taken into custody.
Investigations have also revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over a similar financial fraud, Police said. (Newswire)
