Four Grade 11 students died after a boat carrying a group of schoolchildren capsized while they were collecting flowers in Wanathavilluwa, Police said.
The incident occurred at Mangalapura Willuwa, where five students had travelled in a boat to gather flowers.
Police said the boat overturned, causing all five students to fall into the water.
One student was rescued, while the remaining four were admitted to Wanathavilluwa Hospital.
The other four students, who were in critical condition, were later transferred to the Puttalam Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries, Police said.
The deceased were Grade 11 students from a school in the area. (Newswire)
