Dengue cases in Sri Lanka have climbed to 56,422 as of yesterday, with 35 deaths recorded this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.

Acting Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara said the Western Province continues to bear the highest detections, with Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts accounting for 55.47% of all cases.

The Southern Province has reported 15%, while the Sabaragamuwa Province accounts for 8.6%.

Dr. Kannangara stressed that fumigation alone will not curb the spread of dengue.

“The public too should continuously clean their surrounding environments,” he urged, highlighting the need for community participation alongside official control measures. (Newswire)
