A 41-year-old fisherman has died after a fishing boat capsized off the coast of Chilaw, police said.
The victim, a resident of Rideewella in Chilaw, was the owner of the boat.
The victim and another fisherman had gone out to sea on Thursday (02) evening and had been returning with the boat overturned during the early hours of Friday (03).
The second fisherman was rescued by another fishing vessel, while the victim’s body was later recovered near Marawila by another fishing boat and brought ashore near the Chilaw lagoon.
The body has been placed at the Chilaw Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while Chilaw Police are conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
